Analyze Any Stock in Under a Minute
with Claude's Finance Plugins
Anthropic's official financial-services plugins turn Claude into a research analyst. Here's the full setup, step by step — plus the pre-investment checklist demo from the video.
Get Set Up with Claude Cowork
The finance plugins live inside Claude Cowork (or Claude Code) — not regular Claude chat. Three things you need before anything else:
- A Claude account. Sign up with your email at claude.com.
- A paid subscription. Cowork is only available on paid plans. The Pro plan (~$20/month) is sufficient — you do not need Max.
- The Claude desktop app. Cowork runs in the desktop app, not the browser. Download it from claude.com, install, and sign in.
- Open Cowork. In the desktop app you'll see a selector to switch between Chat and Cowork. Click Cowork — this is where we'll operate the finance plugins.
Add Anthropic's Marketplace from GitHub
Anthropic stores all of its official finance plugins in a public GitHub repository. You connect Cowork to it once, and every plugin becomes available to install.
- Open the Claude desktop app and go into Cowork.
- On the left sidebar, click Customize.
- Go to Plugins → Add → Add Marketplace.
- Select Add from a repository.
- When asked for a URL, paste the one below, then press Sync.
https://github.com/anthropics/financial-services
This is Anthropic's official Claude for Financial Services repository. Menu labels can shift slightly between app versions (you may see "Browse plugins" → "+" → "Add marketplace from GitHub") — the flow is the same: add a marketplace, paste this URL, sync.
Install the Four Plugins
After syncing, you'll see everything Anthropic has built — pitch decks, KYC screening, fund admin, and more. For everyday investors, these four are the ones to install:
Financial Analysis
The foundation: comps, DCF, LBO, 3-statement models, and shared tools the other plugins rely on.
Equity Research
Earnings notes, initiations, model updates — and the /thesis command we demo below.
Earnings Reviewer
Reads earnings calls and filings, updates the model, drafts a post-earnings note.
Market Researcher
Turns a sector or theme into an industry overview, competitive landscape, and ideas shortlist.
- Find each plugin in the marketplace list and click the + icon next to it.
- Watch for the confirmation toast in the top-right corner of the app.
- Confirm the icon changed from a + to a settings gear — that means it's installed.
- Repeat for all four. Once they're in, you're set up.
Demo: The Pre-Investment Checklist
Now let's test that everything works — using one of the most useful commands for retail investors. Before you buy any stock in the future, run this once.
- Go back to the Cowork chat box.
- Press / and start typing thesis.
- If /thesis appears in the dropdown menu, your plugins are correctly installed.
- Run it with a ticker, e.g. /thesis NVIDIA.
Claude will quiz you before it starts
It asks a few questions to tailor the thesis to you. Here's how I answered in the demo:
1. Do you already have a position in NVIDIA?
Long — I already own some.
2. What's the core angle of your thesis?
Reasonable valuation vs. growth.
3. How do you want the thesis delivered?
HTML dashboard.
4. What's your current conviction going in?
Medium.
Answer those, hit enter… and boom. Claude goes to work and builds your investment thesis.
How to Read the Report
Here's what the NVIDIA thesis surfaced in the demo, and what to look for when you run your own:
| Section | What it showed for NVIDIA — and why it matters |
|---|---|
| Key metrics | NVIDIA's core business metrics at a glance — revenue, margins, growth. |
| Core thesis | The market may be underpricing NVIDIA's earnings power, even at its size. Wall Street's consensus price target sat well above the trading price — a gap worth understanding, not blindly trusting. |
| Valuation | A P/E in the low 20s versus a competitor like AMD trading at a triple-digit P/E. Relative valuation is where "expensive" and "cheap" get real context — always compare within the peer group. |
| Thesis components | Durable demand that continues to stay high, plus durable margins — the two pillars the bull case rests on. |
| Risks | China exposure, and custom silicon being built by hyperscalers as they catch up. Every thesis should name what could break it. |
| Catalyst dates | Upcoming earnings from hyperscalers like Google, Meta, and Amazon — with NVIDIA reporting about a month later. |
Bonus: Other Commands Worth Trying
Once your four plugins are installed, press / and explore:
| Command | What it does |
|---|---|
| /earnings-preview | Pre-earnings scenario analysis before a company reports |
| /earnings | Post-earnings quarterly update on a stock you follow |
| /comps | Comparable company analysis — how a stock stacks up vs. peers |
| /dcf | Discounted cash flow valuation |
| /sector | Full industry landscape report |
| /screen | Screen for new stock ideas by your criteria |
| /catalysts | Track upcoming events that could move your holdings |
